High Potential and Shared Goals: KMU and Xidian University Establish a Joint Educational Program and Laboratory

An official delegation from Xidian University visited KMU as part of the development of international cooperation, strengthening academic and scientific ties between the universities, and implementing joint initiatives in medical education, biomedical research, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence in medicine.

The meeting was attended on behalf of KMU by the Vice-Rectors and the Director of the Institute of Life Sciences. Presentations of Karaganda Medical University and Xidian University were delivered, highlighting the main areas of activity, scientific priorities, educational programs, and international projects of both universities. Special attention during the negotiations was given to issues of strategic cooperation, the development of joint and double-degree educational programs, academic mobility for students and faculty members, and the creation of sustainable mechanisms for collaboration in research.


Representatives of the Chinese delegation expressed significant interest in KMU’s approach to integrating science, education, and clinical practice. They particularly noted the strong motivation of young researchers, the presence of the university’s own scientific infrastructure, and the active development of biomedical and digital technology areas. According to representatives of Xidian University, KMU has great potential for establishing a sustainable international research platform in Central Asia.

The importance of combining engineering and medical competencies in training a new generation of professionals was especially emphasized, as this has become one of the key global trends in medical education and research.


As part of the official meeting, agreements were signed on the implementation of a joint/double-degree educational program and the establishment of a joint international laboratory. Representatives of both sides noted that the agreements reached are not merely formal memoranda of intent, but a foundation for practical collaborative work in the coming years.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed prospects for joint research activities, including studies in artificial intelligence in medicine, biomedical engineering, digital diagnostic platforms, medical data analysis, intelligent clinical decision-support systems, and the development of advanced diagnostic technologies.

An important part of the program was the presentation by Mindray company and discussions regarding cooperation with industrial partners. Representatives of Mindray noted the high potential of the joint educational program and expressed willingness to provide comprehensive support for its development, including equipment supply, modeling technologies, and staff training.


Particular attention was also paid to the integration of fundamental and applied research, the development of translational medicine, and creating opportunities for implementing research findings into practical healthcare and the educational process. Delegation representatives repeatedly emphasized that the combination of a strong clinical site, scientific infrastructure, and international cooperation creates a good environment for implementing large interdisciplinary projects.

The guests also visited the Center for Simulation and Educational Technologies of KMU, highly praising the level of equipment and the importance of such facilities for developing students’ practical competencies.

Following the visit, representatives of Xidian University highlighted the university’s openness to international cooperation and its strong potential for developing joint projects.

The visit of the Xidian University delegation marked an important milestone in the international activities of Karaganda Medical University and established a solid foundation for the further implementation of joint initiatives in medical education, science, innovation, and digital technologies.
