Volunteers of the «Жұлдыз» Youth Health Center of Karaganda Medical University have been recognized as the best in the region. The team became the winners in the «Мейірім бастауы» nomination and received the award from the Akim of the Karaganda Region at the Regional Volunteers’ Forum.
Karaganda Medical University operates the Zhuldyz Youth Health Centre volunteer movement, which brings together socially active students committed to protecting public health and promoting a culture of volunteering. Its main areas of activity include promoting healthy lifestyles, preventing diseases and risky behaviour, improving public health literacy, and fostering social responsibility and a conscious attitude towards personal health among young people.
The centre’s volunteers participate in organising and conducting public awareness campaigns, thematic meetings, seminars, training sessions, and interactive activities for schoolchildren, university students, and members of the local community. They present accessible information on disease prevention, maintaining physical and mental health, avoiding harmful habits, and adopting responsible behaviour. Particular attention is given to direct engagement with young people, discussion of current health issues, and the development of practical health-maintenance skills.
The activities of the Zhuldyz Volunteer Centre enable students to apply their medical knowledge in practice, develop leadership and communication skills, and contribute to addressing socially significant challenges. Organising activities for the public and young people beyond the university environment demonstrates KMU’s contribution to knowledge dissemination, the development of preventive healthcare, and the extension of the university’s educational and social mission beyond the campus.
